Peripheral pumps are essentially specialty items that fall between centrifugal and displacement pumps. We call it such because the medium is pumped in a peripheral channel in many industrial applications. This pump draws liquid through the suction flange to function as a volume displacer. After that, the liquid is sent into an annular duct.

Within this tube, a peripheral impeller turns, centrifugally changing the liquid. Special impellers known as peripheral impellers are surrounded by a large number of tiny radial vanes. After the liquid passes through the annular channel and exits the pump through the discharge flange, the impeller's blades give it a significant amount of kinetic energy.

The impellers of peripheral electric pumps are made up of numerous tiny radial blades placed around their periphery. Centrifugal forces induce flow circling between the impeller and casing channel within the rotor. The peripheral speeds of an impeller and a fluid are nearly identical; however, the fluid speed within the casing channel is much lower. As a result, the fluid travels in a spiral pattern from the casing channel to the impeller, repeating multiple times around the perimeter.

More energy is exchanged and more pressure is produced as more vortices develop. Reduced flow leads to an increase in spiral number, which boosts energy transfer and power absorption under partial load conditions.
